Le Cirque belongs to the Jazz series, created by Henri Matisse between 1943 and 1946.
This series, made from gouache-painted paper tht was cut out and glued together, marks an important stage in the artist's career, who began experimenting with this new working method in the 1930s. Ill and forced to remain seated or bedridden, he transformed this constraint into creative freedom.
This puzzle offers a chance to rediscover a major work of modern art, representative of Matisse's late period and his innovative approach to the relationship betweem form, colour and emotion.
