WRITTEN IN FRENCH
Claude Laniesse, a self-taught potter, explores the art of ceramics with tremendous freedom. A colourist with Vlamynck, he was fascinated by Matisse, with whom he shared a passion for decoration, fabrics, vases and flowers. He combines the very strong influence of painting and music with a deep knowledge of ceramic art, from Italian majolica to Chinese porcelain and Delft earthenware.
He plays with the palette to the extreme and gleefully invents colours that do not exist. Drawing on a heritage extended to all eras and civilizations, he is driven by a great respect for ancient forms - on which he mixes all decorative techniques, engraving, modelling, casting.
Claude Laniesse wants to invent everything, the shapes, the colours, the decorations... The bet won.
Exhibition Claude Laniesse Hymne à la couleur in the musée national de Céramique, Sèvres from 22 September until 15 December 2009.
