François Girardon (1628-1715) Fragment of the reduced version of the equestrian statue of Louis XIV

This bust is a reduction of the monumental equestrian statue of Louis XIV, measuring 7 meters high (approximately 17 with the base), melted in 1692 and set up place Louis le Grand (current place Vendôme) in Paris in 1699. It has been destroyed under the Revolution, in August, 1792.

The "Atelier de moulage de la Réunion des musées nationaux" also preserves a cast of Louis XIV bronze foot which is the only remaining piece from the statue in the original size.

The reduction of the equestrian statue of 1692 preserved to the Louvre museum is the only one signed and exceed 1 meter.
