RF006793
Reproduction with hand patina. Mould made from an impression of the original work, a bust of La Fontaine made by Louis Pierre DESEINE (1750-1822).
French poet and writer of the XVIIth century, Jean de la Fontaine is mainly known for his Fables. Commissioned in 1799, this posthumous bust was made by the sculptor Louis Pierre Deseine for the Musée des Monuments Français. Created in 1795, this institution was dedicated to presenting French sculpture from the Middle Ages to the Ancien Regime, following the destruction and seizures of the Revolution of 1789.
For over two centuries, the craftsmen of the Rmn-GP casting studio have put their unique savoir-faire at the service of one of the largest and most prestigious collections of original moulds to reproduce the masterpieces of sculpture, from Antiquity to the present day.
