The catalogue presents a panorama of all types of Asian theatre from its origins to the present day: acting, dancing, singing, acrobatic and animated theatre.
Structured as a journey from India to Japan via China and South-East Asia, it offers, through texts written by the best specialists on the subject, a complete history of all these theatrical genres, in order to allow the Western public to understand all their richness and decipher all their refinements.
Enriched in the appendix with a glossary of the great texts of Asian theatre, it is the first reference work on this subject. But it also allows us to magnify, through an abundance of very varied images, the visual splendour of the costumes, the mysteries of the masks, the delicacy of the cut-out leather puppets and thus to pay tribute to these thousand-year-old performing arts.
