Notebook Ingres-Napoleon Ier on the imperial throne, 1806
This notebook was inspired by Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres' "Napoléon Ier sur le trône impérial" or "Sa majesté l'empereur des Français sur son trône".
Napoleon Bonaparte became Emperor of the French with the senatus-consulte of May 18, 1804. The sumptuous coronation ceremony took place a few months later, on December 2, 1804, at Notre-Dame de Paris. For the occasion, Napoleon donned several costumes, including the grand habillement worn at the coronation. The young painter Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres (1780-1867) portrayed him in this costume, which included a purple velvet coat studded with gold bees, in 1806.
