This signet ring is inspired by the Signet ring with four deities (Egypt New Kingdom - (1550-1069 BC) - Musée du Louvre, Paris - Silver - Giovanni Anastasi Collection (1857) E 3247).
This signet ring features the names of Ptah, Maat, Atum and Ra. The horizontal character under the composition reads mery ('loved by') and pertains to the four deities in question - the ring wearer being the object of this divine love. The unusual arrangement of the text is due to the bezel's oval surface.
Ptah is the demiurge of Memphis and the patron of craftsmen and architects.
Maat is the goddess of the cosmic order, and thus of truth and justice. She is depicted as a woman wearing an ostrich feather on her head.
Atum is a very ancient sun deity of Heliopolis that was gradually assimilated to another creator god - Ra.
