What is a war photograph? An aerial photograph? A photograph by Robert Capa? A propaganda image...?
Through the destiny of images - some unpublished, others iconic - this exhibition highlights the plurality, the polysemy and, ultimately, the posterity of photographs produced during wartime, torn between an objective account of the facts and subjective points of view.
The catalogue follows the chronological path of the exhibition, divided into ten sequences, each devoted to an evolution in the use of photography or to a particular moment in the history of war photography. In addition to the essays, each part presents a focus - which will lead the reader to question the processes of highlighting and iconising photographs - and an interview. The focus and interviews serve as the backbone of the catalogue and allow for further reflection.
This book is an original sum on war photography, educational, rhythmic and richly illustrated!
