This bright blue Egyptian ceramic hippopotamus dating from around 2000 BC, in a walking pose, seems to glide through the water among the aquatic plants that decorate it. Its excellent preservation and large dimensions make it an extraordinary object.
It is held at the Musée du Louvre in the Department of Egyptian Antiquities.
This hippopotamus was buried in the crypt with the funeral apparel. It therefore served a function within the tomb. Submerged in the water, the hippopotamus evokes the primordial swamp, the Noun: the hippopotamus statuette placed next to the mummy thus served to herald the rebirth of the deceased.
The box contains:
1 latex hippopotamus mould
1 set of 6 paints (Turquoise, yellow, black, pearl white, green, red)
