Hand patinated reproduction. Mold made from a print of the original work.
This antique bronze print is based on one of the busts of Napoleon Bonaparte produced by the Sèvres factory. It was in early 1798 that Boizot, then chief artist of the manufactory, submitted the plaster model of the bust of General Napoleon Bonaparte.
Although Boizot certainly did not see Napoleon Bonaparte, contemporary accounts prove the great resemblance of the work with the model: the long hair and the emaciated face are those of the young conqueror on his return from the first Italian campaign in December 1797. He wears the uniform of a general of the Republic embroidered with oak leaves and acorns.
In 1800, Boizot made a bust of Napoleon Bonaparte in the uniform of Consul for the Sèvres factory, slightly different from this example.
