In a decision of January 31st 2020, the Constitutional Council ruled that the protection of the environment, a common human heritage, is an objective of constitutional value by virtue of the preamble to the 2004 Environment Charter.
Since March 1st 2015, the latter has included "a humanist ecology at the heart of our republican pact" in the constitutionality block.
