A student of the painters Bouguereau and Gabriel Ferrier, Louis Willaume made his debut at the Salon de la Société Nationale des Beaux Arts in 1899. He was awarded the prize of the Society of Landscape Painters in 1920, the Corot prize at the 1923 Salon and the gold medal in the engraving section in 1929. He produced about 500 etchings.
In 1948 he became a member of the Société des Peintres Graveurs Français. This organization had been created under the impulse of Bracquemond in 1889.
