The Two Sisters - Schnegg

RF005974
Hand patinated reproduction. Mold made from a print of the original work exhibited in Roubaix.

Lucien Schnegg learned the art of decoration in his birth town before being trained at the studio of the sculptor Falguière in Paris. To earn his living, he was obliged to work as a sculptor's assistant in the studio of Rodin, which left him little time to devote to his own creations.

His work consists mainly of busts of members of his family or friends, as well as statuettes of young women and children. His wife and two daughters were his favourite models.

"The Two Sisters", sometimes called "The Big Sister", reflects the artist's familiarity with his models through his intimate style. Despite her childish silhouette, the eldest sister already has a maternal expression and attitude.

The younger child, her arm reaching out towards the neck of her sister, seems to be responding to the affection felt for her. On the other hand, because of the inactivity imposed by the posture, she may actually be resisting her embrace.
