FRENCH LANGUAGE Josephine was a woman with an exceptional destiny. Daughter of a family of planters from Martinique, she was sent to Paris in 1779, at the age of sixteen, to marry Viscount Alexandre de Beauharnais. The latter was executed under the Terror in 1794.
