Manga. An art of its own!

19 November 2025 9 March 2026

This winter, a wave of manga is sweeping through the Guimet Museum! Whatever your age or generation, come and see your favourite heroes in an exceptional exhibition, spread across all three floors of the museum for the first time.

Admired by several generations of readers, the manga has conquered France and the world, whether aimed at teenagers (shonen for boys, shojo for girls) or adults (seinen, josei, seijin, etc.). But do you know its origins? Through original comic strips and magazines, juxtaposed with objects and graphic works from our collections, the exhibition Manga: An art of its own! lifts the veil on the birth and complex evolution of Japanese comics. From ancient traditions to early Western influences, from satirical press to the first steps of animation, from the creativity of the master mangaka of the 20th and 21st centuries to their influence on fashion and haute couture, the world of manga will hold no more secrets for you!

Paris 1925: Art Deco and Its Architects

24 October 2025 29 March 2026

Dive into the heart of the centenary celebrations of the International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts in Paris, a landmark event that shaped the history of architecture and decorative arts.

The 1925 Exhibition: A Manifesto for Modernity

Inaugurated on April 28, 1925, between the Grand Palais and the Invalides, the International Exhibition reflects the creative ferment of a post-war society undergoing profound transformation. A true springboard for the Art Deco style, it showcased visionary figures such as Le Corbusier, Auguste Perret, Henri Sauvage, and Robert Mallet-Stevens. Under the direction of Charles Plumet, the bold pavilions built for the occasion explored new architectural, urban, and decorative approaches, closely engaging with nature.

Kandinsky. The music of colors

The Grand Dauphin (1661-1711), Son of a king, father of a king, but never a king

14 October 2025 15 February 2026

The Palace of Versailles is presenting an exhibition devoted to the Grand Dauphin, Louis de France, the eldest child of Louis XIV. It traces the life of this often overlooked prince through nearly 250 works from French and international collections. As heir to the throne, he was the focal point of Bourbon dynastic ambitions, without ever reigning, but his education, residences and taste for the arts reflect the destiny which was his due.

Engraving The Friend (from a work by Titien) - Elizabeth Peyton

KM011493
Elizabeth Peyton's revelation as an artist came when she discovered the works in the Louvre through books. One of her first fascinations was Titian's Man with a Glove (1520-1522), one of the most famous paintings by the Venetian master.

The spontaneous process of using soft varnish, known as "à la manière de crayon", enabled him to draw freely through paper directly onto the varnish of the metal plate. This direct, unrepentant technique offers an element of randomness to the creative process, which Elizabeth Peyton welcomed as a creative opportunity for this intimate portrait.

A subtle, bold palette of colours reveals the strength of the features, helps to capture the expression, and adds depth to the composition. The result is a figurative print of great graphic sensitivity, with a masterful technique of expression and quick, sharp strokes.

L'Ami (after Titian) by Elizabeth Peyton is a magnetic, timeless portrait, tinged with a modern sensibility, reflecting a precise, tender and intimate moment that gives L'Homme au gant a contemporary face and recalls the ancestral skills of the craftsmen of the Atelier de chalcographie du GrandPalaisRmn.
