Jacques Félix Duban is a French architect. Together with Jacques Hittorff and Henri Labrouste, he was the undisputed leader of the new romantic generation.
Winner of the Grand Prix de Rome in 1823, he was deeply impressed by his stay in Italy. He discovered in particular the polychromy of Pompeii's ancient paintings, the newly discovered Etruscan tombs, as well as the tradition of the great painted decorations of the Renaissance.
During the Revolution of 1830, he became the architect of the School of Fine Arts. He was elected a member of the Academy of Fine Arts in 1854.
