A New Look at Jan Van Eyck. The Madonna of Chancellor Rolin

Revisiting Van Eyck

March 20, 2024 June 17, 2024 Exhibition has ended

The Madonna of Chancellor Rolin. To share the historic restoration of this work - its first since entering the Louvre in 1800 - with visitors, the museum has decided to dedicate the first exhibition to be held in the Chapelle gallery since 2014 to Jan Van Eyck's masterpiece: Chancellor Rolin at Prayer before the Virgin and Child, known as The Madonna of Chancellor Rolin. The restoration has made it possible to lighten the layers of oxidised varnish that darkened the painting, revealing it in a spectacular new light.
