Marie Antoinette (1755-1793)
Versailles Jewellery Collection
A monogram, or initials, is composed of the first letter of a name and either doubled or followed by the second letter of the name, both interwoven into one character, with or without ornaments. It is used to sign but can be seen also on bronzes or furnishing or any object pertaining to the owner of the monogram.
Also the initials M A can be seen, amongst other things, on the ramp of the staircases of the hall at the Petit Trianon, in the Salon doré at Versailles, on the porcelain set of the Queen's travel kit.
