The former royal residence was reborn, under the direction of Louis-Martin Berthault, an architect from Malmaison.
In 1813, he called upon the skills of Girodet, who was then at the height of his glory, to decorate the imperial apartments.
Girodet created a very homogeneous decorative ensemble, where furnishing and décor perfectly blend to embody the perfection of the refinements of the art of living under the Empire.
