WRITTEN IN FRENCH
Robert Mapplethorpe (1946-1989) is one of the greatest masters of fine art photography.
Obsessed with beauty, in an aesthetic quest for perfection, referring to the great masters of art history, it is with an extremely stylized black and white that he creates portraits, nudes and still lifes. The exhibition at the Grand Palais is the photographer's first retrospective in France. With more than 250 images, the different themes and large series of his work are exhibited without any censorship. Marble bodies and flesh sculptures, geometries and choreographies, still lifes and vivid anatomical details, plant and body flowers, class portraits and night shots, soft eroticism and hard porn, all of Mapplethorpe's art is unrolled.
A reduced-format reissue of the catalogue for the Robert Mapplethorpe exhibition at the Grand Palais in 2014.
