"To illustrate his monumental work Le Pilier des migrants disparus, which will be installed under the Louvre pyramid in autumn 2022 as part of the "Les Choses" exhibition, the Ateliers d'art de la Rmn - Grand Palais and the Louvre Museum have invited the artist Barthélémy Toguo to engrave a copper plate for the Chalcographie collections of the Louvre's Graphic Arts Department.
With Balade print, an etching and aquatint on copper, Barthélémy Toguo reveals another facet of his art and plunges us into a vegetal universe to celebrate beauty and nature. With a free and spontaneous gesture, he traces, in a fluid and shaded green wash, the body of a woman from which emerge flowering stems.
The artist, known for his commitment and his questioning of major universal issues, such as social or migratory inequalities, ecological disasters and the imbalance of economic exchanges, reconciles here poetry and emotion to question the human being and his ecosystem.
Assisted technically by Bertrand Dupré and Marius Tessier from the Chalcographie workshop of the Rmn - Grand Palais, the artist engraved his plate himself.
Etching, aquatint with wash, lavender oil process on copper.
