"Everything" speaks in Jean de La Fontaine's Fables and, in the first place, the animals:

I use animals to instruct men", says the storyteller,

I made the wolf speak and the lamb answer,
I have gone further: trees and plants have become talking creatures for me.
If for 400 years La Fontaine has continued to enchant adults and children alike, it is because, according to his plan, each of his Fables constitutes a human comedy, each fable is a story in which the greatness and shortcomings of the human or animal actors are depicted in a few words.
