Jean Baptiste Oudry (1686-1755), "Cadet and Ermine"
"Cadet and Ermine" shows two spaniels standing still in front of an elegant pheasant. The jet-black coat, on which the light from the breakthrough at the back of the painting bounces, the lively, energetic gaze and the dexterity of the brushstroke in depicting the various coloured patches of the pheasant's plumage, make this painting one of the artist's finest creations.
