On the right page, the portrait of a king or a queen; on the left page, a text in the form of a rhyme. The pages are cut into 4 strips that you can manipulate and switch as you wish: the texts get mixed up to become zany, and strange new faces appear...
In all, there are 14 French sovereigns that can be "crossed" to create more than 30,000 new portraits. At the end of the book, we find the paintings in their entirety, accompanied by a short biography for each king and queen of France.
