Moustiers in the Alpes de Haute Provence (near Digne), was a great earthenware center in the 18th century. This picturesque village had an extremely careful production, using a fine clay, a bright and milky enamel, very creative designs, perfectly adapted to elegant shapes. The use of blue monochrome, characterized by the hunting decorations and the Berain decorations marks the apogee of the art of the local faience makers.
The polychromy of great fire, deprived of the red of iron, deploys a subtle palette in decorations in "lace and figures", in "garlands and medallion", floral compositions and realizations of naive style, but especially, decorations of grotesques which collected an immense success.
This book, which brings together the various aspects of this manufacture, is a guide to better recognize a faience of Moustiers.
