Jewel inspired by a pivoting bezel ring in the name of the scribe and director of the king's harem, Iâhmès.
Rings appeared in Egypt as early as the first dynasties, and were commonly worn from the Middle Kingdom onwards. At that time, the bezel often took the form of a beetle, a prophylactic animal that symbolises the daily rebirth of the sun, and it can be rotated to serve as a seal. Alongside various decorations (floral motifs, deities, prophylactic signs and various decorative motifs...), the names and titles of the owner are frequently present. Here, the "dish" of the amulet bears the name and titles of the scribe and director of the harem of King Iâhmès.
