In the form of a real newspaper, (re)immerse yourself in the exhibition of the Musée du Luxembourg "Les Nabis et le décor. Bonnard, Vuillard, Maurice Denis..." thanks to the official exhibition newspaper!
True pioneers of modern decoration, Bonnard, Vuillard, Maurice Denis, Sérusier and Ranson defended an art directly related to life, making it possible to introduce Beauty into everyday life.
From the time the Nabis group was formed in the late 1880s, these artists advocated an original, joyful and rhythmic expression. Their compositions were characterized by the use of bright colours and undulating lines, and were based on a perspective without depth. They created a painting in which the decorative question became a foundation of the unity of creation.
A choice of sumptuous works offers us a plunge into the subjects of modern life, in which motifs (wallpapers, carpets, printed fabrics) and colourful plans with contrasting values are juxtaposed. This iconography brilliantly demonstrates how the Nabis managed to reinvent a decisive plastic language for the avant-gardes of the early 20th century...
