Through some forty works from the collection of the Musée National d'Art Moderne, this catalogue traces the evolution of the work of Julio González, a Catalan artist considered to be the founder of modern iron sculpture, from his first works of ironwork to the deconstruction of the human figure, via goldsmithing and his militant commitment to the victims of the Spanish war.
It also pays tribute to the beautiful friendship between González and Picasso, as both artists share a love of sculpture and an interest in metal constructions. The exhibition is presented in the stunning nave of the Musée Le Secq des Tournelles in Rouen, which houses the world's largest collection of iron art.
Exhibition at the Musée Le Secq des Tournelles, 2017.
