This portrait of Francis George Hare is in France Reynolds' most famous painting. The two-year-old boy with long hair is depicted with his clothes as a very young child. He is dressed in a muslin suit like children of his age and background. This work quickly became famous and one of the obligatory illustrations of British art.
Joshua Reynolds, a British portrait painter, was the first president of the Royal Academy. His production was considerable; it is estimated at more than seven hundred paintings, and we know that he painted up to one hundred and fifty-six portraits in one year (1759).
Above all, Reynolds was a colorist and, as such, he established himself among the masters. His passionate search for seductive and rare effects led him to experiment with hazardous techniques: he multiplied the glazes and imagined the most diverse combinations, mineral and vegetable colours, wax colours, various varnishes, etc.
A student of Auguste Boulard, Léon Salles exhibited at the "Salon des Artistes Français" from 1893, where he was awarded several medals (1894, 1896). He became president of the engraving jury.
