The work and its artist

Marcel Duchamp (1887-1968)

Marcel Duchamp was a French-American painter, visual artist and man of letters. Inventor of the Ready-Mades, they are everyday objects that acquire an artistic dimension through the value that the artist gives them by appropriating them and removing their utilitarian function, one of the most telling examples is Duchamp's upside-down urinal entitled "Fontaine" in 1917.
