Small lucky and protective objects, amulets were very widespread in the Ancient Egyptian period. Taking the form of various symbols or certain divinities, they are found in funerary ornaments as well as in those of the living. For their bearers, they are a guarantee of protection, fertility, power and rebirth.
The dung beetle is a symbol of rebirth for the dead; a stone beetle was often placed on the chest of mummies, engraved with a formula from the Book of the Dead.
The eye is reminiscent of the Udjat eye, a symbol of fullness and good health.
The famous Ankh Cross of Life is the symbol par excellence of immortality and eternity; it is found engraved on the walls of temples, tombs, or even on statues, in the hand of the gods only, and it was relatively rare in the decoration of everyday life.
