This wooden cup is inspired by a detail of a meiping vase with dragon decoration (China, 14th century, Yuan dynasty (1279-1368) - Porcelain. H. 33,6; W. 20,1 cm. Paris, Musée national des arts asiatiques Guimet).
The dragon, a central mythical animal in the Chinese bestiary, is beneficial and evokes the emperor in China. Depicted in the azure sky, chasing a flaming pearl, it brings rain, essential to the life and prosperity of the Empire.
