The artist

Sonia Delaunay (1885-1979)

Sonia Delaunay-Terk is a Ukrainian artist naturalized French in 1908. She is particularly known for her use of bright colours and abstract geometric forms. Convinced that there is no hierarchy between the arts, and therefore that there is no major or minor art, Sonia Delaunay extends her plastic research from painting to fashion and interior decoration. Sonia worked with her husband Robert Delaunay, with whom she is often associated. Together they developed an abstract style and created the artistic movement of Simultaneism (introducing the principle of simultaneous colour contrast into art).
