This diary of the exhibition is kept by Gaëlle Josse from a selection of photographs by Vivian Maier (1926-2009) that have proved to be key moments in her life.
These sequences evoke the dear and recurrent themes of her work.
She walked through the city with a Rolleiflex. Each face, each silhouette taken would tell a story, "as if each life interviewed had to deliver its secret. She walked the city alone or accompanied by children. She was very inspired by the scenes and portraits of children, they were important in her work and made a joyful and right or poignant impression.
Finally, the artist's self-portraits are certainly the most original and enigmatic part of her work. She played with her own identity. Vivian Maier "grabbed the life that was everywhere she looked.
her gaze. She captured it in small sequences, she observed it, she followed it."
A biography of the artist ends this diary and tells the rest of her story... through the discovery of her photographs.
Exhibition "Vivian Maier" at the Musée du Luxembourg from 15 September 2021 to 16 January 2022.
