Arnulf Rainer was born in Baden (Austria) in 1929. Close to fantastic realism, he founded the Hundsgruppe (Dog Group) with Fuchs, Lehmden and Bauer.
After his early discovery of American abstract expressionism (1951-1954), he became the most famous representative of the Austrian expressionist movement. The artist was introduced to engraving in 1963.
In 1981, he was appointed professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna and also teaches in Stuttgart.
