This brooch is inspired by François Pompon's sculpture The Polar Bear.
Valued assistant to Auguste Rodin and Camille Claudel, Pompon (1855-1933) began exhibiting his works of art at the Salon in 1874. Sensitive to the simple lines of Egyptian art, he turned towards animal themes starting in 1905. Pompon's animals have an imposing presence thanks to the play of smooth forms and the emphasis he placed on the silhouette.
Pompon's work has been exhibited in museums in Dijon, Saulieu, Besançon, Lyon, Grenoble, Nantes, Rouen and, in Paris, at the Orsay Museum and the Museum of Natural History.
